Honda’s advanced safety technology sets them apart from other car manufacturers. The Honda Sensing® Safety Suite offers the most innovative safety technology to assist drivers, keeping them safe and lowering the risk of collision. Today we’re breaking down the Safety Suite and what each feature does.
The Honda Sensing Technology Suite
There are a number of different features in the Safety Suite.
Adaptive Cruise Control+
Adaptive Cruise Control not only lets drivers set the desired speed for their commute, but it also allows drivers to set and maintain a desired following distance to the vehicle ahead. This means that drivers are able to use cruise control in light traffic.
Collision Mitigation Braking System™
This system determines the distance and closing speed of objects detected that lie directly ahead. The driver will be alerted with audible and visual warnings if the system determines the potential for a crash. The system will apply light or strong braking if necessary.
Forward Collision Warning
This system warns drivers of possible danger ahead. This system uses both audible and visual warnings to alert the driver. Forward Collision Warning compares the vehicle’s speed, with the speed of the vehicle ahead and determines if a collision has the potential to occur.
Lane Keeping Assist System
The Lane Keeping Assist System works to keep the vehicle in the middle of its lane. If the system detects the vehicle drifting from the centre of the lane, it will gently apply steering torque to guide the car back to the middle.
Road Departure Mitigation
The Road Departure Mitigation System identifies if a vehicle is about to leave the road. It uses a camera to identify lane markers and will warn the driver if they are going off the road. The system will apply moderate steering torque or braking if the situation deems necessary.
Blind Spot Information System
Built-in sensors monitor the area surrounding your vehicle. It will alert the driver if a vehicle is detected on either the side. If the driver turns on their turn signal, the system will alert the driver with an audible and visual warning.
Traffic Sign Recognition System
With cameras in the Honda Sensing Suite, your vehicle will work to ensure you never miss a traffic sign again. When you approach a sign, your vehicle’s camera can scan the sign and read the speed that it is displaying. The limit will then display on the dash and head up display, helping you maintain the correct speed limits.
Cross Traffic Monitor
Never be blindsided by crossing traffic with the Honda Sensing Safety Suite. Available on select 2018 and 2019 models, the Cross Traffic Monitor works when the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera is engaged in any mode. If the Sensing Suite detects traffic approaching from the side, it will alert you with a series of beeps and indicators to ensure that you are aware of the oncoming traffic, and can act accordingly.
Auto High-Beam Headlights
Available on select 2019 and 2018 models, the Auto High-Beam Headlights will switch on or off depending on your conditions – including the light around you, level of traffic around you, and speed. This function only works when you are travelling at night, above 40 km/hour, and you have the headlight lever on the low-beam position, with the switch rotated to AUTO.
