The Honda Indy is Staying in Toronto!
Indy racing fans in Ontario can finally stop worrying. Not only is the Honda Indy staying on the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule for 2015, but the race will also be staying in downtown Toronto.
As we discussed in our previous blog about the topic, the traditional July dates of the Honda Indy were jeopardized due to Toronto hosting the Pan-Am Games, as the Games will be making use of Exhibition Place (the home of the Indy) for the month of July. After months of ongoing dialogue and discussions with the City of Toronto officials, the decision was made to move the race to mid June. Although it hasn’t been formally announced yet, the race will be held June 12-14 of next year.
There were alternate options for the race if Toronto wasn’t feasible – such as moving the race to Bowmanville, Ontario at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. Indy officials had even gone as far as visiting the site to assess whether or not it could accommodate an Indy series event. Ultimately though, this was not something that needed to be explored more, as a cancellation of a mid-June race in Texas allowed Toronto to jump in and claim the dates, while keeping it downtown.
Keep an eye out for the official announcement on Thursday, as there will definitely be some details released that you don’t want to miss! Also, keep an eye on the Henley Honda website and Facebook. You never know, we might even give you a chance to win some tickets!
